Sanjay Sharma is a Postdoctoral Fellow at DPU. He is part of the research project Moral Economies of Schooling: Money, Morality, and Household Financing of Education, led by Associate Professor Karen Valentin. This project explores the intersections of money, morality, and education financing in Nepal, where Sanjay focuses on the experiences of migrant families.

Originally from Nepal, Sanjay has worked as a migration researcher for over 15 years across Nepal, South Asia, Singapore, the UK, and Hungary. His career began with a focus on labour migration, particularly the movement of Nepali workers to India. Over time, his research expanded to examine climate-induced migration within South Asia, with case studies in Nepal, India, and Pakistan.

With a background in political science, Sanjay has studied citizenship issues among Nepali Gurkhas living in the UK. Later for his PhD, he transitioned to social anthropology, investigating the mobility of patriarchy and its influence on the lives of Nepali men and women. His research on Gurkhas in the UK further explored themes of gender, transnationalism, and social memory.

His work is grounded in qualitative methodologies, with expertise in ethnography and visual anthropology.
