Digital technologies are transforming learning and education. However, for many children with sensory impairments, inclusive and engaging tools remain inaccessible. Drawing on interviews with teachers and children, this lecture highlights innovative co-creation pathways in which sensory tools are collaboratively designed and refined with children with visual impairment or blindness and their teachers.
Grounded in multisensory theory and research on critical periods of development, Julia Föcker demonstrates how integrating auditory and haptic feedback can foster enjoyment and engage higher-order cognitive processes.
Future projects will push the boundaries of multisensory innovation by reimagining sensory learning experiences, identifying critical technological gaps for children with complex sensory needs, and co-creating next-generation accessible educational tools to enhance inclusive learning and participation.
