The seminar takes place in Copenhagen at The Danish School of Education.

Our special guest is Professor Akiko Ueno, Ph.D. Kinjo Gakuin University, Nagoya, Aichi, Japan.

Akiko Ueno will speak about her research in Japan focused on Home Economics Education from grade 5 as a mandatory subject, and on Japanese students who have to take Home Economics classes up to grade 10 or 11. Her research relates both to consumer education, and to the general field of Home Economics Education. She will focus on her special interest in diversity of everyday life and the implementation of multiculturalism in Home Economics Education.

The Academy board members will speak about selected results from an empirical research study “Food Diversity in Home Economics Education from a teacher’s perspective”, that took place as a collaboration between the six Danish teacher training University Colleges and Danish School of Education, Aarhus University (2020-2022). Substantial contributions were made by: PhD fellow Mathias Thorborg and post doc Jacob Christensen, Danish School of Education, Aarhus University; senior lecturer Majbritt Pless, University College Lillebælt; senior lecturer Connie Greffel Frerks, University College South Denmark; senior lecturer Helle Brønnum Carlsen, Copenhagen University College; senior lecturer Merete Vial, VIA University College; senior lecturer Camilla Damsgaard, University College of Northern Denmark & senior lecturer Susanne Tønneskov, University College Sjælland. They will present different parts of the research results and recommendations for Home Economics Education in Denmark.

The research seminar will discuss, provide insights, and share feedback on the Japanese and Danish research results.
